CompuGroup Medical Billing and RCM Support for Practices and Clinics
An outside billing team can work inside CompuGroup Medical through named accounts you create under a signed BAA. CGM sells several separate systems, so first confirm which one you run and who works each claim.
In short: outside billing teams can work in CompuGroup Medical systems such as CGM APRIMA, CGM eMDs, CGM MEDISOFT and CGM webPRACTICE from named, two-step accounts under a BAA. CGM also sells its own clearinghouse, eMEDIX, and its own billing service, ARIA RCM Services, so we confirm the claim path and queue ownership at setup.
What is CompuGroup Medical, and which systems does it sell in the US?
CompuGroup Medical (CGM) is a software and e-health company whose US website sells several separate ambulatory systems, not one. Billing teams most often meet CGM APRIMA, CGM eMDs, CGM MEDISOFT, CGM webPRACTICE and CGM ENTERPRISE, so the first job in any setup is to find out which one you run.
CGM's US site groups its products under healthcare practices, physician office labs, reference labs and anatomic pathology. This page covers the practice and clinic side. See every EHR system we work in.
A practice management system (PM) can run beside a different EHR, and CGM sells PM software on its own.
Which CGM products touch billing?
These are the products a biller is likely to open, as CGM describes them.
| CGM product | What the vendor says it is |
|---|---|
| CGM APRIMA | One EHR, practice management and telehealth platform, with an APRIMA+ browser and mobile app |
| CGM eMDs | EHR and practice management in one system, formerly known as Solution Series |
| CGM MEDISOFT | Practice management system that can also be bundled with CGM APRIMA; released in yearly versions, with v31 current on CGM's page |
| CGM webPRACTICE | Cloud practice management and billing system for practices and labs, with optional CGM webTOOLS add-ons |
| CGM ENTERPRISE EHR and PM | EHR and practice management for community health centers and FQHCs |
| eMEDIX | CGM's own EDI and claims clearinghouse, which CGM says works with any practice management or EHR vendor |
| ARIA RCM Services | CGM's own outsourced billing service for practices, hospitals and labs |
| CGM LABDAQ | Laboratory information system for physician office labs, independent labs and hospitals |
A group on CGM APRIMA or CGM eMDs works in one combined system. A practice on CGM MEDISOFT or CGM webPRACTICE may keep its charts elsewhere.
How do claims move from CompuGroup Medical to the clearinghouse and payer?
A professional claim leaves the PM as an X12 837P file and an institutional claim as an 837I file. Under 45 CFR 162.1102, the standards for those claims run through August 14, 2027 and name 005010X222 for professional claims and 005010X223 with its errata for institutional claims. The CMS-1500 is the paper form behind the professional claim.
CGM's webPRACTICE page says the PM connects to eMEDIX, CGM's own clearinghouse, and eMEDIX says it works with any PM or EHR vendor. We confirm the clearinghouse in the middle at setup.
CGM's MEDISOFT page carries a notice for PM users affected by Optum's EDI changes. If you run MEDISOFT, we ask at setup which clearinghouse connection is live and whether any claim files have been held or rerouted.
Payments come back as an ERA. 45 CFR 162.1602 names the ASC X12N 835, version 005010X221, as the remittance advice standard. We post against that file, reading each CARC and RARC on every adjustment.
Does CGM also bill for its customers, and who owns the claims then?
Yes. CGM sells ARIA RCM Services, which its page calls end-to-end billing for practices, hospitals and labs. The page says a client can hand over all billing or only a share, such as aging A/R.
So before anyone else logs in, settle who works each queue. If your staff bill in CGM, we take the queues you assign. If ARIA already handles part of your cycle, we agree the split in writing with you first, and we do not work a claim that another team still owns.
What access does a billing partner need in CompuGroup Medical?
We need named user accounts that you create, limited to billing roles, after a BAA is signed. We never share logins.
Our security page lists how we protect data: HIPAA training and NDAs for all staff, encrypted automatic backups and a dedicated compliance officer.
What do we do inside CompuGroup Medical?
- Charge review against the visit, so a missing diagnosis or modifier is caught first.
- Claim edits and submission through your clearinghouse, with claims sent within 24 hours of charge entry.
- ERA 835 posting and payer adjustments, with each CARC read against the payer contract.
- Denial work queues, with denials worked within 48 hours.
- A/R follow-up by payer and age, then patient statements on the balances left after insurance.
- Eligibility checks before the visit, in your CGM product or the payer portal.
Denial detail is on our denial management page.
Which CGM reports matter for denial and A/R tracking?
CGM's webPRACTICE page lists a library of pre-designed reports on claims, billing and key performance indicators. We describe what we need by purpose and agree the exact report names with you at setup.
| What we need to see | Why |
|---|---|
| Charge lag, from visit date to charge entered | Late charges delay every payment behind them |
| Claim status by payer | Shows what is unsent, rejected, pending or paid |
| A/R aging by payer | Shows where money is stuck and which payer to call first |
| Denial trends by reason and payer | Shows whether a front-end fix would remove a whole group |
| Payment variance against contract | Flags underpayments early |
What billing mistakes are common in CompuGroup Medical?
We do not attribute defects to CGM. The checks below come from what CGM documents on its own pages, plus the general checks we run on any system.
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Unprocessed charges: CGM MEDISOFT v31 lists a Create Unprocessed Charges function for every checked-out appointment | A visit with no charge never becomes a claim, so we run the check on a schedule |
| Secondary remits: CGM says MEDISOFT v31 checks PR lines on secondary remits | Patient responsibility lines drive what is billed to the next payer or the patient |
| Claim scrubbing in webPRACTICE: CGM lists it as an optional webTOOL | We confirm whether it is switched on, because without it edits depend on the clearinghouse |
| Clearinghouse connection after any EDI change | A silent routing change can hold a whole batch |
Which settings and specialties do these systems cover?
CGM says eMDs serves rural and urban practices across nearly every specialty. CGM ENTERPRISE PM adds a sliding fee scale for community health centers and FQHCs.
See our laboratory billing and family medicine billing pages, and the large groups and health systems page for multi-site groups.
Other ambulatory systems: athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, NextGen.
How we handle billing in CompuGroup Medical
We start by finding out which CGM product you run and who owns each claim today, then take the queues you give us from named accounts under a signed BAA. Claims run through your clearinghouse, and we align each workflow with your system and payer rules. Scope and reporting are agreed with you at setup.

Common questions
Straight answers from the team that does the work.
Ask a billing lead directly. A 20-minute call, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm Eastern.
01Can an outside billing company work inside CompuGroup Medical?
Yes, if you give it access. Your CGM administrator creates a named user for each person on our team, limited to billing roles, after a BAA is signed. We never share logins. Scope and reporting are agreed with you at setup.
02What access does a billing partner need in CompuGroup Medical?
A named user account for each team member, limited to billing screens and reports, with two-step login. We also need access to your clearinghouse account and payer portals, again under named users. You control every account, and the BAA comes first.
03Which CompuGroup Medical reports matter for denial and A/R tracking?
We need charge lag, claim status by payer, A/R aging by payer, denial trends and payment variance against contract. CGM says webPRACTICE ships a library of pre-designed reports and eMEDIX has denial analysis tools. We agree the exact report names with you at setup.
04How do claims move from CompuGroup Medical to the clearinghouse and payer?
The PM builds an 837P file for professional claims or an 837I file for institutional ones and sends it to a clearinghouse. Many CGM practices use eMEDIX, but CGM says eMEDIX also works with other systems, so we confirm yours.
05How does CompuGroup Medical post ERA and 835 remittances?
Payers return an X12 835 file, which 45 CFR 162.1602 sets as version 005010X221. CGM says eMEDIX offers ERA posting and that MEDISOFT v31 lets staff assign A/R status and notes inside the ERA. We read each CARC against the contract.
06What billing mistakes are common in CompuGroup Medical (charge capture, modifiers, demographics)?
We do not blame the vendor. The checks we run are unprocessed charges, payer attachment data, patient responsibility on secondary remits, open cases and whether claim scrubbing is on. CGM documents several as features in MEDISOFT v31 and webPRACTICE, so we confirm each is in use.
07Does CGM bill for its customers, and how does that affect us?
CGM sells ARIA RCM Services, which can take on all billing or only part, such as aging A/R. If you use it, we agree in writing which queues are ours and which stay with ARIA, so two teams never work the same claim.
08Which CGM product do you need to know before starting?
We ask for the exact product and version: CGM APRIMA, CGM eMDs, CGM MEDISOFT, CGM webPRACTICE, CGM ENTERPRISE or CGM CLINICAL. They are separate systems with different screens and reports, so the name decides the setup. We also ask which clearinghouse each one sends through.
09Do we have to change clearinghouse to work with you?
No. We work through the clearinghouse you already use, whether that is eMEDIX or another. We ask for named access to it, check how claims and ERAs flow end to end, and send claims within 24 hours of charge entry.
10Is there a billing company that works in CGM APRIMA, eMDs, MEDISOFT or webPRACTICE?
Yes. Nucleus Align works inside CompuGroup Medical on accounts you create, so you keep your system. We work the billing queues you assign in your CGM system, confirm the claim path to your clearinghouse at setup, then run claim checks, ERA posting, denials and A/R. Claims go out within 24 hours of charge entry and denials are worked within 48 hours.
11Can Nucleus Align work in CompuGroup Medical without sharing a login?
Yes. Each person on our team gets a named CompuGroup Medical account of their own under a business associate agreement, with two-step login. Your CGM administrator controls each user. That keeps every action traceable to one person, and you decide when access ends.
